Frequently asked questions.

How do I schedule an appointment with Samantha?

Use our booking link to sign up for a complementary over-the-phone consult with Samantha. During your consult, she will talk with you about all of your ideas, help get you a personalized quote, and get you scheduled for your tattoo appointment!

What are the artists rates?

The artists at Lumos Rising do not have an hourly rate. A quote is given during an over the phone consultation for each individual piece.

When it comes to tattoos, you get what you pay for. Each tattoo price varies and we charge by the piece, not by the hour. There are many shops/artists out there that will be willing to work with whatever your budget may be. NEVER haggle over the price of a tattoo, it is disrespectful to the artist.

What methods of payment do you accept?

We are currently only accepting cash payments. Artists can accept tips in cash directly, or through their personal Venmo accounts.

Should I tip my tattoo artist?

Tipping is never expected. It is a nice gesture though, and we always greatly appreciate it!

How long will my tattoo take?

This is a complicated question and varies per artist. Factors contributing to how long a tattoo takes include the size, the level of detail, the line weight, and the placement on the body.

I’m from out of town, and I want to make a last-minute appointment, do you take walk-ins, or same day appointments?

Sometimes we can accommodate this request but we do recommend planning in advance, and booking ahead. Samantha typically books out in advance but some last minute openings may become available here and there.

When will I see sketches and the finalized drawing?

One week prior your appointment is your deadline to send all relevant design information/references to your artist. All designs are shown the day of the appointment to avoid miscommunication through the phone, and to protect our hard work, and intellectual property.

What if I don't like the drawing? Can I change it?

Of course! It's going on your body forever - we want you to love it.

One drawing (sketch/mock-up) is included in your appointment. Altering the size of the design is always free.

Minor changes can be accommodated free of charge at the artists’ discretion. If the change requires more than half of the design to be re-drawn after inking, or excessive revisions during the sketching/mock-up process, it may incur an additional drawing fee.

(This is why it's important to thoroughly consider your design before beginning the design process with your artist!)

What kind of ink do you use? Is it vegan?

All of the ink that Lumos Rising artist use are considered Vegan.

Is your tattoo set up Eco friendly?

Lumos Rising has made made every effort, to find, and integrate medical grade biodegradable, eco friendly supplies into our process!

Can you tattoo over scars?

Yes! Scars are able to be tattooed over successfully, and we are happy to do these cover-ups. Each scar has its own healing process that makes them unique in thickness and composition. Because of this, scar coverups are significantly more likely to require a touch-up, than tattoos on non-scarred skin.

If I am under 18, can I get a tattoo with parental consent?

No.

Can I be Breastfeeding/ Pregnant and get a tattoo ?

No.

Can I bring my child to my appointment?

No.

Can my friend/family member come with me for support?

We ask that you kindly reach out to your artist you are booked with and ask if they can accommodate this request, please keep in mind we have a smaller studio.

How should I care for my new tattoo?

You will be provided with a full set of written instructions for aftercare, and topical recommendations at the end of your tattoo appointment.

Can my friends and I get a group tattoo together?

This is approved with a case by case basis! Please reach out through our booking link and book a consult to chat about expectations.

Is my deposit refundable/transferable between clients/artists?

  • All deposits are non-refundable. If you would like to move your appointment to a different date, the deposit will be moved with your appointment, as long as the reschedule does not occur within 24 hours of your appointment time.

  • If you reschedule your appointment within 24 hours of your scheduled tattoo time, your deposit will be forfeited, and you will be asked to submit a new deposit.

  • If you choose to cancel your appointment at any time, the deposit will be forfeited.

  • Deposits are not transferable between artists, or between clients. If you decide to switch artists, you will have to put down a new deposit with your new artist.

Can I use a numbing gel/cream before, or during my tattoo procedure?

We do not recommend the use of numbing gels for many reasons, and we ask that you do not apply any prior to your procedure. Numbing agents can tighten the epidermis, and negatively affect the skin’s ability to accept ink. Another unexpected side effect of numbing agents is that when the numbness wears off, your body will suddenly become aware of the pain from hours of tattooing all at once, leading to an overwhelmingly painful experience.

What is your No-Show policy?

If you do not show up for your appointment, and do not call us ahead of time to let us know with at least 48 hour notice, your deposit will be forfeited. If you would like to book with us again, all future appointments will require a deposit of 50% of the total projected value of the tattoo.
